As a long time fan of Overclocked Remix, I thought it would be appropriate to do a mention of their latest release. For those of you who do not know, Overclocked Remix (OCR) is a web site dedicated to high quality "Remixes" and "Re-Arrangements" of all varieties of video game music. Not to be taken away from the fact that it is "Video Game Music", the point of OCR is to show the true musicianship that goes into writing such music. With everything from fully orchestrated symphonies, to hard trance, to hillbilly rodeo music... OCR has an awesome selection of Nostalgic music for all fans.
Now onto the main subject... "Final Fantasy VII: Voices of the Lifestream". I'll just take the main excerpt from the main page.
“ Final Fantasy VII: Voices of the Lifestream is an OverClocked ReMix Album featuring free fan arrangements from the soundtrack to Square's legendary Final Fantasy VII for the Sony Playstation. From jazz to techno to rock to classical, it features over forty five tracks from over forty artists, each interpreting composer Nobuo Uematsu's works in their own unique style. ”
I highly recommend checking this out. Download the Torrent, Seed it, Digg the page, and maybe even write about this in your own blog. Heck, I am going to be writing an article later today about a ticket I got, but I put this down as a priority on top of that. So take my word, OCR hasn't let met down yet, and I don't plan on it happening any time soon. Also, if you are really bored, check out some of my remixes on the site. They are titled under the remixer "Nex". Of course, this was many years ago so they are... well, alright. Check out OCR!
Edit: After getting a chance to listen to the whole thing, I would definitely say this is a must for anyone who is remotely interested in this kind of music - and even if this isn't your normal cup of tea... it is definitely worth a listen. With everything from jazz ballads, club, rock, and classical - there is something everyone can get out of this. "bLiNd" and his tracks just blew me away, "A Life Without Parole" by Dhsu is a captivating piano arrangement, and all of it's subtle nuances are impeccable. The most unique track for me would be "Alien Exploration" by Trenthian. With a rock-reggae feel mixed with folk music, it stands out (in a good way) from the other tracks. This will be a collection that will be on my iPod for awhile to come.
